Basic Mashed Potatoes


  • 2 lbs russet potatoes
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • Rinse potatoes, peel and slice. Large chunks are just fine.
  • Place potatoes immediately in Instant Pot and add just enough water to cover, along with 1 tsp salt.
  • Close and lock the lid and turn the steam release handle to Sealing
  • Select Pressure Cook and set timer for 8 Minutes .
  • After cook time is done, flip the steam valve to quick-release the pressure
  • Pour into a colander to strain, then return cooked potatoes to the pot
  • Add melted butter, buttermilk, black pepper, and salt, or more to taste
  • Use a fork or potato masher to mash to desired consistency
  • Serve warm and enjoy
