Ingredients

  • 1 block extra firm tofu
  • ¼ cup cornstarch
  • ½ tsp. salt
  • ½ tsp. paprika
  • ½ tsp. garlic powder
  • Avocado oil spray, as needed
  • 2 tbsp. green onions, sliced
  • For the Spicy Garlic Sauce
  • 5 garlic cloves
  • ½ tbsp. ginger, minced
  • 2 Thai chilis
  • 2 tbsp. green onions, sliced
  • 1 tsp. gochugaru
  • ½ tsp. sesame seeds
  • 1 tsp. sesame oil
  • 1 tsp. oyster sauce
  • 1 tsp. sugar
  • 2 tbsp. soy sauce
  • 3 ½ tbsp. diluted black vinegar
  • ¼ cup neutral oil (vegetable, canola, etc.)

These Air Fryer Crispy Tofu Bites are the perfect easy snack or quick weeknight dish made right in the Instant Pot® 4QT VORTEX® Mini Air Fryer. The tofu gets incredibly golden and crunchy on the outside while staying soft inside, and it cooks in just minutes with simple pantry ingredients. Paired with a spicy garlic sauce packed with aromatics, heat, and umami, every bite is crispy, saucy, and full of flavor. This recipe is fast, healthy, and perfect for anyone who wants a satisfying plant based dish without deep frying 

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Drain the tofu and wrap it in paper towels. Place something heavy on top (a pan or cutting board) and press for 15-20 minutes to remove excess moisture. 
  2. Cut the tofu into bite-sized cubes. 
  3. In a bowl, combine cornstarch, salt, paprika, and garlic powder. Add in the tofu cubes and gently toss until each piece is evenly coated. 
  4. Remove the tofu from the bowl and shake off any excess coating. Place onto a plate and spray lightly with avocado oil spray to help the coating crisp. 
  5. Preheat the 4QT VORTEX® Mini Air Fryer to 400°F / 205°C.
  6. Arrange the tofu in a single layer, leaving some space between the pieces. Air Fry for 9-11 minutes, shaking halfway, until golden and crispy on the outside.  Once the cooking time is complete, remove and set aside. 
  7. In a heat-safe bowl, add the minced garlic, Thai chilis, sliced green onions, gochugaru, sesame seeds, sesame oil, oyster sauce, and sugar.
  8. Heat ¼ cup neutral oil in a small saucepan until sizzling hot. 
  9. Carefully pour the hot oil over the aromatics. It should sizzle immediately. 
  10. Add soy sauce and diluted black vinegar. Stir until everything is combined and glossy. 
  11. Spoon the spicy garlic sauce over the crispy tofu bites or serve it on the side as a dipping sauce. Top with extra green onions and sesame seeds. Serve hot.
