We asked 9 great bloggers to help us celebrate Mother’s Day by converting one of their own mothers’ best recipes for the Instant Pot – here’s what they came up with!
Love, like food, comes in all shapes and sizes. For a lot of us, a mother’s love is inextricably linked to the food they make. Your Mom cooked for you, fed you, and helped you grow up strong and healthy! And after all that time, it’s amazing how a certain taste or aroma, or even the thought of a dish still has the power to bring childhood memories flooding back. This year, we’re featuring some very special Mother’s Day Recipes: 9 amazing bloggers have each converted one of their Mom’s recipes for the Instant Pot.
We invited a few of our favorite bloggers to create special recipes for Mother’s Day, asking them to pick a dish from their childhood – something that really reminds them of their Mom – and convert it for preparation in the Instant Pot. We hope you’ll agree the results are spectacular.

Chicken Tikka Masala (No Cream)

Aneesha is blogger-in-chief at Spice Cravings, where she makes her family’s favorite quick, easy and healthy recipes. Her recipes are inspired by her love for spices, her North Indian roots, global travels and life as a working mom. The amount of one-pot/pan meals and pressure cooking recipes on her site are a testament to her love of good food cooked fast. These recipes are easy enough for teens to make, require minimal hands-on time and need almost no babysitting.
This recipe for Chicken Tikka Masala is an Instant Pot adaptation of her mother’s signature dish. Aneesha simplified the recipe without compromising on taste, and made it a one pot recipe thanks to the Instant Pot pressure cooker.
Her mom makes this recipe in three steps. She starts by marinating and grilling the chicken cubes in a skillet. In another pot, she makes the sauce, then simmers the grilled chicken in the sauce for a few minutes. The end result is to die for, but there is a lot of babysitting involved in doing all that.
When she was converting this recipe for the Instant Pot, Aneesha wanted to make sure it was easy enough for a weeknight. It took her a couple of tries but she finally succeeded in replicating her mother’s amazing Chicken Tikka Masala, all in the same pot, and in only 45 minutes— most of which is hands-off time!
It not only saves time, but since the chicken is pressure cooked in the sauce, it becomes soft and juicy and soaks up the flavors of the sauce beautifully! And, a big bonus is that you can make accompanying rice Cumin Rice in the same pot using the pot-in-pot cooking method. How easy is that! Now, if only Aneesha’s Mom had an Instant pot 🙂

Her recipes are easily recognizable as tasty, wholesome, memorable, and very often chocolatey, and her choice of dishes for Mother’s Day is all of the above.
Marci doesn’t remember her mother being much of a dessert fan, except when it came to her birthday. Then it only meant one thing: German Chocolate Cake.
As Marci grew, the annual cakes she made for her mom’s birthday got bigger, if not necessarily better. She recalls that most of the time they were dry, sloppy, or collapsing, but the sight of a German Chocolate Cake always meant it was a very special day indeed.
These days Marci is a much better cook! This Mother’s Day she revisits the birthday tradition with a no-holds-barred creamy, smooth, decadent — and tear-worthy — German Chocolate Cheesecake.
Frieda Franchina has been sharing comfort food and bread recipes on her site for over 10 years, focusing on tips and techniques by teaching step by step basics in baking, cooking, and pressure cooking. She has taught cooking classes, been on local live television, and more recently, is sharing her how-to videos on YouTube. She is known for her popular Cold Start Yogurt method and yogurt recipes.
For our Mother’s Day special, Frieda chose to convert her mother’s classic vanilla & chocolate pudding recipe, for the Instant Pot pressure cooker. Pudding uses basic pantry ingredients and has so many applications: enjoy it alone, with whipped cream, as a parfait, in an eclair or even made into a pie. Frieda shared with us that her mother has been using a stove top pressure cooker for this recipe for as long as she can remember. We think if Frieda’s mom had had an Instant Pot, she’d have been be amazed at all the extra time on her hands!
Back in the day, her mom would spend a great deal of time at the stove, stirring the milk to prevent it from foaming or scorching, and from forming lumps.In developing this recipe, Frieda discovered that using the Instant Pot to make pudding takes less time, and best of all, no burning or scorching! With very little hands on time used to make this recipe, you’re free to spend time with what’s more important— your family. Frieda hopes you enjoy this pudding recipe as much as she does!
Julia not only has some amazing recipes, but she’s got some of the most gorgeous food photos out there on her blog Imagelicious. Like most people, she discovered that after starting a family, her cooking style changed significantly due to the lack of time. That doesn’t mean she still doesn’t find time for tinkering with the magical alchemy of the kitchen arts, especially baking.
For Julia’s Mother’s Day recipe, she chose something special from her childhood: a dinner that hailed from her family’s Georgian homeland (that’s Georgia over near Russia, not the American State).
Satsivi is a main course of chicken with walnut sauce. Working from her mother’s original recipe, Julia converted it for the Instant Pot. Two weeks later, after making it four times, she finally had a version she was willing to let her mother try. It might not be exactly the same, but Julia’s version of Instant Pot Satsivi is much easier than the traditional way that Mom used to make, and every bit as good.

For our Mother’s Day event, they chose one of their favorite desserts, something that their moms often made: Tapioca Pudding. Back then it was a rich treat saved for festive occasions because it was such a time-consuming process. Cooking it on low heat to make sure the milk didn’t stick to the bottom of the pots took a lot of babysitting!
Today, when they are both away from their moms in India, and they make it for their kids in the US and Europe, they make it in our Instant Pots and give it their healthy twist. If only they could go back in time and gift their moms an Instant Pot, life in the kitchen would have been so much easier for them. Today they honor their moms by recreating this recipe and hoping their kids love it as much as we do.

This a recipe is based on Archana’s own mom’s chicken curry that she grew up eating most Sundays. In the summer of 2017 when her mom was visiting, they made this curry together in the Instant Pot. Archana was delighter to discover that they achieved the same authentic taste that were in her memories, while her mom was impressed by how perfectly the chicken was cooked and having just one pot to clean!
