Hi. I just received a 3 qt Instant Pot for my birthday and I’m so excited! 🙂 I tried preparing veggies (to start), but I turned the unit off when steam began escaping as pressure was initially building. I later read that isn’t unusual as the pot builds pressure (hope I’m understanding correctly). The question I have is this: I panicked and turned off the unit because the pressure valve was up and it seemed I should be able to push it downward? It’s standing up and loose (normal, I’ve read). Does the valve remain up at all times or should I be able to push it downward? I’ve searched everywhere and never a mention of this. Guess I’m the only “slow” one. 🙂 Thank you in advance! I can’t wait to start cooking!

      Hello Cynthia,

Thank you for reaching out. Please note that your steam release valve should be set to the “Sealing” position when pressure is building. The float valve will rise once pressure has been built. It is normal for steam to leak during this initial pressurization stage.

If steam is still escaping after the float valve has risen please create a support ticket at the following link, https://support.instantpot.com/. A customer service representative will be in contact within 24-48 hours.

      Kind Regards,

The app does not have all the recipes that the site has. I really like the ingredients list of the app. Is there a way that I can put the ingredients on a list from the site?

What would be great is the ability to pin favorite recipes from specific IP groups like Pressure Cook Recipes by Amy & Jacky, Nom Nom, Whole 30, Two Sleevers, etc. When I’m in one of these groups and find a recipe I like, I save the link on my PC on a categorized page but which requires printing pages for use. An app that I can use anywhere that has my saved recipes would be a great help. I would think that Facebook IP group owners would love to contribute what they can to make it all work. Maybe your app has this capability already.

      Hello,

Great question! Please keep in mind that the Instant Pot, on its own, is not designed specifically for sous vide cooking as the water will not circulate in the pot. This recipe was designed for use with our Accu SV800 Sous Vide Immersion Circulator. This has since been discontinued, however, we are currently reviewing the possibility of an updated model in the future.

If you are interested in sous vide cooking in your Instant Pot without an immersion circulator, please see the following link for a recipe uses the Keep Warm function to sous vide a duck breast: http://maomaomom.com/sous-vide-duck-breast/

Please feel free to reach out with any further questions or concerns!

Hi, are all the recipes designed for the larger Instant Pots? I have the Instant Pot 3 qt and I’m hoping not to have to adjust the recipes too much. Is there a way to filter the recipes to come up based on Instant Pot size?

      Hello Rebecaa,

Great question! As a standard recipes are designed for the 6 quart pot size, however, as a rule of thumb simply half recipe for the 3 quart size.

In addition, there would be no change in the cooking times between the different Instant Pot sizes as the temperature ranges for all of the pots are the same. The difference you would see between the different sizes is that the larger sizes require more wattage to power and heat the larger heating element to the correct temperature range. You may therefore find a shorter preheating period for the 3 quart size models.

Please let us know should you have any other questions or require any further assistance!

      Kind Regards,
      Sorley O

          Hello Laura,

Thanks for the feedback! This would be a useful feature and is a feature our IT team is currently considering. In the meantime please note that all recipes are designed for the 6 Quart, unless otherwise stated. For the 3 Quart simply half the recipe, and for the 8 Quart the standard recipe will produce the same results.

I agree! It’s not clear when reading the recipes what size pot they are for. I recommend, too, that the recipe book and recipes on sites and apps clearly state they are for the 6 quart. I’m disappointed now I did not buy the 6 quart since it seems the 3 quart is an after thought. I also have trouble knowing what size the accessories are since I now need a steamer basket.

            Hello Debbie,

Thank you for your feedback, I will be passing it on to our team. Please note that all recipes may be halved to be converted for the 3 Quart size. Personally I use my 3 Quart Instant Pot for preparing side dishes, soaking legumes, and any meals for 1-2 people.

For the accessories, please visit our store page at the following link; https://store.instantpot.com/collections/accessories. For all 3 Quart sized accessories, please refer to the title for that accessory item, for further information please click on the item.

      Hello Carol,

Thank you for reaching out! I am sorry to hear about your issue with slow cooking, I’ll be happy to help!

First, could you confirm that the “Delay Timer” was not accidentally selected, users have reported this as being the issue in the past. You will know if it has been selected as the “Delay Timer” is activated the LED will be illuminated on the “Delay Timer” or “Timer” button.

If this was not the issue, please ensure you were slow cooking with the lid attached and the steam release set to the “Venting” position. Also please note that the temperature can be adjusted between “Low”, “Normal”, or “More”, depending on your model this is acheived by either pressing the “Slow Cook” button repeatedly, or pressing the “Adjust” button.

Please let me know if this solves your issue, if not please contact myself and we will discuss further steps.

      Looking forward to your response!

      Kind Regards,

I received the DUO80 8 qt, 7 in 1, as a Christmas present. I am new to the IP world and am very intimidated cooking with the IP. I have a large family and want to utilize the 8 qt to it’s fullest. All cookbooks and internet recipes I have found are designed for 6 qt, with exception of a few. The other night, I made Turkey Tikki Marsala. I wanted to double the recipe, but didn’t know how, so I made one batch, poured it into a bowl and made another. I did the same with a Kalua Pig recipe. This is not only a waste of my time, but not using the machine to it’s maximum capability. My question is how do I increase the existing recipe(s) from a 6 qt to an 8 qt without comprising the original recipe’s integrity? As in the case of the Turkey Tikki Marsala, do I increase the meat and liquids and the seasons? As in the case of the Kalua Pig, if the recipe calls for 4 lbs of Pork Butt and 1/2 C of water, how much meat and liquids do I need to increase it for an 8 qt IP, what about the seasons? Thank you for your help. Holly

      1. The recipes can be used in an 8 Quart Instant Pot (with no changes).
      2. Make sure the minimum liquid levels are met, for example, 6 Quart minimum is 1.5 cups and 8 Quart minimum is 2 cups.
      3. In general, you can increase recipes by 1/4 and this includes increasing all ingredients with the exception of meat. Be sure to keep ingredients below the safety level of 2/3 marking in the pot.
      4. For a meat roast, please see our cooking time page as a reference: https://instantpot.com/instantpot-cooking-time/

I just bought the 8qt Duo plus and I love it. The first thing a tried was Canada goose in a sauce then added the carrots and potatoes, wonderful. The second recipe was my chipotle chili using Canada goose, it was so tender and awesome that one of my husbands hunting buddies ordered an instant pot that day. This is a fantastic product for all our wild game. But, I am having difficulties when the recipes don’t state 6qt or 8 qt used. Do I use more more than 1 cup of water on pot bottom when pressure cooking with trivet, which by the way is small in the 8qt. Do I need to increase some recipes like oatmeal, rice etc for the same results? It would really help to know what size the recipe is designed for, and how to convert it to the 8qt if making the 6qt recipe would create a different result in the 8qt.

      Hi Annette,
It’s recommended to use 18 fl oz. / 500 ml of water or other liquids so enough steam can be generated to cook under pressure. These include cooking sauces, wine, beer, stocks, juices of fruits and vegetables. If you follow a recipe, you can use the same quantities and times as recommended for a 6 Quart as your 8 Quart with the same results, it’s just the 8 Quart has a larger capacity, which means you it can hold more food. If you are unsure of quantities of foods and liquids as you’d like to add more to your cooker, we have a great timesheet section on our website you can refer to which is helpful: https://instantpot.com/instantpot-cooking-time/

It looks like you have a separate Android App for the Bluetooth version “Instant Pot Smart Cooker”. Its icon looks completely different and the developer email in the description is different so I thought at first it might be a fake. You should probably include a link to it above so people know it’s legit.

I am so disappointed in the basic instructions and lack of recipes available for this must have machine. I just don’t think it is to much to ask for you to give cooking times for : 3lbs of chicken, 2lbs of roast basic like you find in beginning cookbook which pressure cooking is to most people. Present it to your team.

The recipes I quickly scanned (I just downloaded the app) state prep time, cooking time, and total. It does not take into consideration the time for QR in total time. It would be most helpful when quickly scanning recipes to know the time from start to table, especially when trying to quickly throw some dishes together.
